I Cried Deeply After This “Om” Massage—Here’s My Honest Review
I’ve been seeing Jeannie and her wonderful team at Venustus beauty and body lab in Sydney’s Paddington for about six years now. For a while I kept her a secret, but then as the years passed and her influence on my way of being in the world intensified, I started sharing her name with my colleagues, my close friends, and other women who I could see needed healing.
That’s probably a good starting point for this honest review. There’s no shortage of places to get a great massage or facial in Sydney, but Jeannie’s approach is about so much more than getting a treatment. She spends a lot of time listening to her clients and then tailoring treatments to suit our needs. And I don’t mean shrinking our pores or removing the knots in our backs—I mean our true needs—our souls, hearts and our minds.
In her own words, the Venustus team will “honour you with great respect, attentive listening, deep presence and an astute intuitive understanding of what your body needs.” What heaven.
It was also Jeannie who introduced me to the power of working with crystals, and now they’ve become a huge part of my life. Every time I go to Venustus we’ll do a short or long session on crystals—sometimes the ones I have are still working, sometimes I need something new to add to my growing repertoire! I was actually freaked out recently because one crystal broke in half and I was adamant it meant something bad, but she assured me it was just showing me its work was done. Phew. Right now I’m working exclusively with Chrysocolla, which eases emotion (because mate, have I been on a rollercoaster of late), and gives me renewed strength. I have felt a dramatic change in my mental state and everything has just felt lighter. I’ve also felt challenged with staying true to myself and my values of good communication in particularly tense, high pressure meetings. So this stone has also helped me attune and then express.
I explain all that to help bring some context to why I cried so deeply after experiencing Jeannie’s newest offering—the Om Massage. It is a silent treatment in the room so before I went in, she asked me how I wanted to feel, where I felt blocked, and if there was anything I wanted to shift. At that point in time, I was feeling a lot of pain and heaviness in my upper back, and my jaw was very sore and tight. Jeannie explained that the pain in my back was directly related to guilt, and feeling stuck in “that stuff back there”, and we both agreed the stiffness of my jaw was a symptom of me feeling unable to communicate properly. Makes so much sense, right?
But when I entered the room, I had no idea I was about to have the most moving massage of my life. And this is coming from a woman who cries every time I have a Venustus treatment! On reflection, I identified it was the use of energy, sound, and smell that made it such an intense but ultimately rewarding experience. I did a lot of healing in that room.
The Om Massage is a spirit-levelling treatment, focusing on our vibrational frequency. “We are beings, made up of different energy levels—physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual—combined to create an overall vibrational frequency. Our vibrations are our positive energy, so its purpose is to slow down the body and nervous system and increase our vibrations.
"To lift your vibration, be conscious of your thought, and energy. Be grateful, appreciate every morning, eat great healthy organic food, drink lots of water, and meditate every day. Once mastering higher, lighter energy, you then have to focus on maintaining it,” says Jeannie. I also learned this from Oprah (casual).
Om chanting music from Tibetan monks is used throughout the treatment. The Om sound vibrates at the frequency of 432Hz, which is the same as everything found in nature. The description on the treatment menu explains “by chanting, we are symbolically and physically tuning into that sound and acknowledging our connection to all other living beings, nature and the universe.” I mean, I was just so deeply in at this point. It was transcendental—I’d completely surrendered.

Singing bowls are an ancient type of energy medicine, and Jeannie and her team use one in the Om Massage to provide a passage for the sound vibrations to impact the nervous system. Hearing the sound a singing bowl engages our relaxation reflex, which in turn helps restore our vibration frequency to a more normal level.
Bells & Crystals
Tibetan cymbals are used, which offer a clear, high-pitched tone. This awakens the spirit and clears negative thoughts. Crystals are placed on the body’s energy centres—our chakras—crown, third eye, throat, heart, solar plexus, sacral and base. They also work on clearing and cleansing our energy.
Palo Santo means “holy wood”. This sacred wood has a heavenly presence in keeping energies grounded and clear It provides an uplifting aroma that raises your vibration in preparation for meditation & allows for a deeper connection to the source of all creation

I loved the smell of this scared wood. It has high healing qualities and is burnt and held below your face for some deep breathing. It only lasts about six seconds and I think a great addition to the home or bedroom, actually. I’ve been lighting the stick I took away with me before bed each night.
While you are entranced and surrounded by sound and energy, Jeannie’s expert team work their magic with massage. The Om Massage includes a mixture of techniques and is tailored to your needs. I really enjoy deep remedial massage, so my therapist Fleur spent a lot of time releasing my shoulders and my neck. From there she used Shiastu, reflexology, hot rock, trigger point and Hawaiian across my body and some on my face. The jaw massage was intense, but I felt it immediately loosen and it has remained so since.
When I came out of the room and saw Fleur, I cried really hard. In fact, I am crying now just thinking about it. As the therapists at Venustus always do, Fleur recommended I stay in that energy and allow it space and time to fully release. My trick is sitting in my car in silence, instead of going back out into the world. So I sat there and cried, and cried, and cried. It felt amazing.
If you are picking up what I am putting down, gift the Om Massage to yourself. It is November, it’s been a long year and you absolutely deserve it. I promise it will heal you and set you up for a positive, fulfilling 2018.
