If You’ve Been Searching for a Massage That Will Touch Your Soul, This Is It
“Six hands, three hearts. One powerful healer and one soul grateful for the experience.” That’s how Lucie Ferguson, founder of cult Australian jewellery brand BABYANYTHING described Venustus Beauty Lab’s latest treatment innovation, the six-hand massage.
I’m not shy about my Venustus obsession, heck, I even launched a podcast based on founder Jeannie Bourke’s work as a healer. But if you’re still getting acquainted with what I’m determined to turn into a movement, maybe start by reading about the cryotherapy facial, then move to the Om Massage, and again here, and perhaps treat yourself to an organic star sign roll on perfume. There’s more of course—like the Venustus products we push on every woman we know—but this story is dedicated to the six-hand massage.
Yes, six. That’s three therapists, all working in unison in a safe, warm room. But before you even get to the room, there’s healing to be had.
The team at Venustus work both energetically and physically, so before this special treatment you’ll sit down and talk about how you’re feeling. Not for everyone, but I beg you to at least give it a try. This is such an important time to discuss the type of energy you want to attract of shift, or where you’re feeling pain. This helps Jeannie and her team—Fleur, Haruko, Kayo—help you choose crystals and a scent which will be incorporated into the treatment, help them set intentions and mood in the room.
The treatment begins with you hopping onto a comfortable massage bed stocked full of warm heat packs. Time to melt into the bed and let the team of highly trained therapists tend to your every ache and need. Their style is intuitive, so get ready to feel surprised when they know where to go deeper, where to stay, or when to move on.
They’ll then clear and cleanse the room with sage smudging before using a singing bowl—an ancient energy medicine that provides a passage for high sound vibrations to impact your nervous system.
From there, expect to smell scared wood palo santo, which has high healing qualities and is burnt and held below your face for some deep breathing. A great ritual when you arrive home for the day as well actually. You can buy sticks at Venustus of course.
Tibetan cymbals are then used to commence a synchronised massage that is so deeply moving you will come face-to-face with your soul. In Jeannie’s own words:
“The massage begins in the prone position (face-down) with the three senior staff at the feet and leg area in synchronised movements, working on the feet, calves and upper legs; releasing tension with movements which are firm enough for relief. The back area begins with the three therapists and their layered hands working together down the back area, this area is always very firm and energetically connected. One therapist remains on the back area, while the two therapists move to the lower back and gluteus are—all three still working in a completely flowing ritual.”
