INF / Network: Meet Talisa Sutton
Meet our INF / Network, a highly curated roster of some of Australia’s most respected voices in fashion, beauty and lifestyle. We will work closely with these women to bring you a fresh perspective, and offer them an opportunity to create content outside of their traditional categories. Perhaps you have always loved Sara Donaldson’s style, but you're keen to know more about her beauty routine? Or maybe you love Kelly Muller’s parenting advice, but want to know more about her fashion tips? We’re opening the door to give these inspirational women an opportunity to share more with you.
It’s time to meet… Talisa Sutton of Badlands.
There was a quote I heard on Leandra Medine's Monocycle podcast recently... She was discussing start-ups, and there was a great saying about how with any new business in start-up mode, you are your own cook and kitchen hand. I think that's often the part that gets overlooked, particularly when you work in fashion or design. You are projecting quite a polished, stylised vision, however, behind the scenes isn’t always so glamorous! I'm across all aspects of my business, from accounts to project management, client liaison, shooting, editing, and publishing. Some parts are a lot of fun, others take some getting used to. I'm definitely learning on the job each and every day!
When I'm feeling uninspired, I try to take a step back from social media and the internet—sometimes it can be information overload! My favourite things to do are see an exhibition, wander around a gallery, go for a walk, or discover a new place. I also love books on art, design and architecture, and there is nothing a good film and a glass of wine can't fix.
In the morning, my husband makes coffee first thing and we watch the news while we have breakfast. I like catching up on what's happening in the world (and my emails) first thing. I'm quite strict about my skincare routine, so after my shower I apply serum, moisturiser, and sunscreen before my makeup. After that it's get dressed and out the door.
In the evenings, after my email and social media duties are wrapped up, I like to unwind by having a nice dinner, and occasionally indulging in a bit of Netflix (at the moment I'm watching The People v. O.J. Simpson). Before bed, I always cleanse my face and remove my makeup, followed by moisturiser, eye cream, and a facial oil before bed. I also love to read for half an hour before turning in, and I find that combined with a lavender pillow spray, it makes for a good night sleep.
