10-Second Skincare Tips Every Lazy Girl Should Know
Admittedly, our ancestors embraced ageing a bit more than millennials and Gen X. While our grandmothers swore by cold cream and silk scarves, we're more of a "gimme-all-the-products-you-got" generation. Today, it's all about quick results, and if those results aren't fast enough, for some, a trip to the dermatologist's office isn't out of the realm of possibility for a bit of a tune-up, if you will.
While we'd like to take a step back and mirror our foremothers' take on beauty, we're still all about that instant gratification. But luckily, according to top dermatologists and estheticians, you can actually use some quick tips that don't involve anything invasive or a stockpile of products. So while we'll continue to use our favourite creams, serums, and elixirs to make our skin look like a baby cherub's in the long term, we'll heed their advice and try these fast methods when our skin needs a little extra love. Check out what they had to say below!
Grab a Beautyblender
Beautyblender The Original Beautyblender ($30)
"My favourite way to banish the appearance of lackluster skin requires two simple tools: a Beautyblender and a lightweight organic oil such as jojoba oil," says Heather Wilson, Director of Brand Development and Licensed Aesthetician for InstaNatural. "On the wide end of a dampened Beautyblender, apply two to three drops of jojoba oil and lightly bounce along the areas that you would typically apply highlighter. This quickly adds a natural glow and brightens your overall complexion. You can use this trick when first applying your makeup or to revive your skin midday."
Give Yourself an Eye Massage
Take ten extra seconds to give yourself a little massage when you apply eye cream each morning. Wilson says, "So many eye concerns are caused by a lack of stimulation in the under-eye area. Increase the benefits of your eye cream by incorporating a gentle massage. Using your ring finger and circular motions, simply massage the area along the orbital bone, temples, and your third eye. This increases circulation and flushes excess fluid and feels incredible."
Press in Oil
Eat Something Cold
Over The Moo Vanilla Bean Missing You ($15)
Carl Thornfeldt, MD, founder of Epionce skincare, has a totally unconventional but yummy tip for quickly relieving facial swelling (including under-eye bags). "Eating two ounces of ice cream will help reduce blood flow to the face, which is a quick fix for both acne and under-eye puffiness as it reduces inflammation by causing rapid vasoconstriction." In other words, the cold temperature triggers inhibitory stimuli in the brain, which stimulates blood vessel constriction. Thornfeldt says that theoretically anything very cold will work, but "there is clinical proof" that ice cream reduces major swelling (which is why it's often recommended after your wisdom teeth or tonsils are extracted). If you're going the ice cream route, try a non-dairy variation as dairy is a known aggravator for acne and other skin ailments.
Grab a Wash Cloth
Try Green Tea Bags
Create Your Own At-Home Spa
Aesop Purifying Facial Exfoliant Paste ($55)
Wilson also suggests applying an exfoliator after your get out of the shower while the air is still moist. "The steam and warmth from your shower work similarly to the steam in a facial, creating the ideal canvas for your favourite at-home exfoliation treatment," she explains.
