Olivia Palermo’s Faux Braid Is the Best Thing We’ve Seen All Month
Here's a sentence I've written on this site approximately 400 times before: I am big into Olivia Palermo's hair. REAL big. Despite the fact I wear my own much the same way no matter the occasion (out, wavy), I never get tired of watching OP mix it up. Yes, she's reigning Queen of the polished blowdry, but she also does braids like nobody else. Like practically every other celeb, she's put her own spin on the side fishtail braid and plaited pigtails, but it's the intricate and advanced braids she shows off less often that take her over the top. (Remember this fishtail-on-fishtail situation? MAN.) As much as I enjoy poring over snaps of Palermo's next-level braids, I can rarely recreate them at home. (Confession: This is my secret beauty editor shame.) Braiding is not a skill I've honed beyond a simple plait, which means most of the time I can only look, not DIY. All this to say I was mega pleased to learn my girl OP recently debuted a faux braid ponytail I can actually copy.

On first glance, OP's faux braided pony looks crazy-intricate but it's actually surprisingly simple to copy. To start, make sure your hair has texture. If it's freshly washed and slippery, blast it with Batiste's Texturizing Spray, $13, to add grip and hold. (Skip this step and the bobby pins probably won't hold.) Next, divide your hair horizontally into two sections (from ear to ear), clipping the bottom section away. Part the top section down the middle, then split each side into three smaller sections as you would a plait. (You should end up with six sections, three on each side.) Now, for the actual "braiding". Crosshatch the sections over one another, pinning the hair down to your scalp as you go. When done, let out the clipped bottom section and dust it with texturising hair powder like Redken's Powder Grip 03 ($24) for a matte piecey feel. Easy right? The perfect style to disguise frizz, I'll be busting it out when spring's impending humidity finally drops.
