These Are the Resolutions Byrdie Editors Are Making for 2017
Happy New Year! 2016 came and went in a flash and we're more than ready to kick off the next twelve months which already promise to be brighter, better, and more beautiful. Just like all of you, here at Byrdie we've taken the last few weeks to determine our resolutions for the New Year.
We've focused our New Year's resolutions on wellness and beauty, exploring ideas like digital detoxes, self-acceptance, getting out of our comfort zones, getting back into nature, and finally using all those beauty devices we've invested our hard-earned money in. Whatever 2017 brings, we hope it's the year you finally feel like you're not working endlessly to become your best but are simply enjoying being your best, most beautiful self.

"In 2017, I'd love to get out of the habit of mindlessly scrolling through my phone every time there is half a second when I'm not being actively stimulated by something else. I no longer want to be the person who is so bored by her own thoughts that I have reach for my phone every time I hit a red light, have to wait five minutes in a waiting room, or feel like I just need an extra screen in front of my face while already working on my computer or watching Netflix. I know that powering down more often will cut my stress, improve my sleep, and benefit my overall mental health. 2017 will be the year I do it."
"My New Year's resolution is to stick with my beauty devices. I love the results when I'm using my micro current and red light gadgets regularly, but I always seem to drop off. This year I want to get (more) serious about my skin care, so my goal is to use my NuFace and my Reverse all year long. Even if I don't hit the recommended 3-5 times a week every week, I just don't want to let myself give up completely. Skin devices are pricey, but worth the investment if you use them, so my resolution is get my money's worth. That, and eat more green veggies."
"For as long as I can remember I have vowed to lose weight—to some how become the type of person who works out five days a week and enjoys leafy greens instead of pizza. In short, I wished to become a different person every single year. How screwed up is that? I can't believe it took me this long to realise there's something out of whack about that logic. Of course, maintaining a (somewhat) healthy lifestyle is important and I have made strides to do better each day. But, this year, I resolve to be easier on myself. That's a better understanding of wellness. I resolve to eat salad when I crave it and stop eating when I'm full. I resolve to do more yoga because it makes me feel good, not because it is some sort of cure-all to my curves. Curves are beautiful! I resolve to continue to be kind to myself and my body when I look in the mirror."
"My resolution for 2017 is to be on more of a wellness schedule. Right now, I wake up late and go to bed late, causing me to be incredibly exhausted during the week. I want to commit to going to bed earlier and waking up earlier, because as studies show, you're most productive in the morning. Going off of that, I also want to commit to going to yoga every week. I coerced my boyfriend into coming with me, and he loved it so much that he sent me a reoccurring calendar invite to make sure we stick to it, but we've only gone maybe four times. Waking up earlier will certainly help ensure I'm able to make that 7:30 P.M. class on Tuesdays."
"I really got a taste for what self-care really means this year, and I'm really excited about expanding on that in the new year. To me, this means zeroing in on the intersection of what makes me feel great and happy—for me, that's hiking, yoga, cooking (and eating) beautiful plant-based meals, and indulging my creativity. First and foremost, it's understanding that wellness is highly personal. And that's what makes this resolution so much more sustainable than others I've made in the past—it's all about the process, rather than working toward an unattainable result!"
"Focus on my mental and internal wellness, meaning meditating, stretching, turning my attention away from my phone before bed, taking supplements, and being more mindful of my mental awareness and clarity. Additionally, schedule doctor appointments that I've been putting off, like getting my moles and eyes checked out and making sure my cholesterol is good!"
"My New Year's resolution is take better care of myself from the inside out. I'd like to prioritise getting more sleep, reducing my stress, and I may even take up meditation. I want to be more mindful about what really matters and prioritise the non-material—like experiences and relationships. For physical fitness, I'd like to get back out in nature and, as a recent California transplant, take advantage of all the state has to offer—from rock climbing in the Mojave Desert to hiking in Kings Canyon National Park."
