Team Byrdie Australia Share Thei
Just a few weeks ago, I underwent a social experiment in which I stopped wearing makeup for a fortnight. Ultimately, I came out the other end with clearer skin, boosted confidence, and a few extra hours sleep under my belt. Inspire by my new-found barefaced self, I asked team Byrdie to do the same. After some subtle coaxing, five makeup-free selfies pinged in my inbox. So below, you'll see us in all our natural glory, and I have to say, it feels pretty good for the most part.

"This is me at my most relaxed point of my day—after my nighttime skincare routine and ready for bed. I use makeup as a confidence boost, and even when I’m “bare-faced” I’ll usually put concealer on to hide my eternal dark circles. In saying that, it’s not unusual for me to leave the house without makeup at all. The most daunting part of this is having my naked, unfiltered face on the internet, but that’s something I’d love to see become more normalised."

"To be fair, I snapped this selfie right after jumping out of the ocean (in Italy, no less). I was on a relaxing holiday, and I had recently permed my eyelashes, which makes me feel comfortable to go make up-free, I think makes a huge difference in the way I look overall."

"Being asked to take a makeup-free selfie didn't seem like that big of a deal to me, since I do try to avoid makeup when I can. I feel like going without makeup on a lazy Sunday gives my skin a chance to breathe when I'm not trying to impress anyone. The day I took the picture, I did have a few little spots on my face, which I obviously don't love... but nobody's perfect! I think it's kind of liberating to show that—even though I do wish my skin were better at times."
