10 Beauty Trends Every Woman Should Try Before Age 30
Your 20s are often called your definitive years—and for good reason. After all, this post-college/pre-settle down period of limbo is when we learn the most about ourselves, our likes (food delivery apps, purple lipstick, impromptu road trips) dislikes (things that get in the way of you and said likes), and everything that falls in between (hot yoga). When it comes to beauty, especially, this pre-30s period is your time to experiment. Just think of your makeup bag as your oyster.
Ahead, we’ve gathered 10 beauty trends we think every woman should try before she hits the big 3-0—for no other reason than the fact that your 20s are prime time for making some potentially risky beauty moves. As for our readers over 30, by no means see this list as exclusive—we like to consider it a guide for all the risk-taking 20-year-olds at heart.

Whether you prefer a glint of shimmer, all-over iridescence, or a big, fat sparkly line à la Chanel, now is the time to play around with glitter eye makeup. (In case you need some inspiration, we’ve got plenty here and here.) If you make a faux pas (or two), no worries—they’ll make great #TBT Instagrams years from now.
So you’ve been debating a big colour change—perhaps going from brunette to blonde, or going from blonde to My Little Pony pink. Either way, take this period to have fun with your hair colour. Youth is on your side, and it’s best to play around with colours now, when your hair can still bounce back from excessive bleaching.
We’re not going to deny that a well-placed hair pin or subtle headband are appropriate well beyond your 30s, but make sure to play around with all things bright and quirky in your 20s, too. Weave pops of colour through your braids, try a hair ornament, tie a big bow up, the possibilities are endless.
If you’re never tried nail stickers, we’re here to tell you that you should, especially during this period of your life when your nail polish philosophy can best be defined as “paint and dash” (and then regret, when said nails are smudged shortly afterwards). If you’re feeling particularly bold, choose ones with no-way-it’s-nail-art designs, guaranteed to garner a second take or two.
Take your lipstick game up a notch by pressing loose glitter onto your lips right after applying your favourite colour, or try a shimmery press-on Lip Tattoo ($10). Either way, your lips will steal the show at whatever party you’re at (or when you’re bored at home taking selfies with your cat).
So you’re no Cara Delevingne and no amount of brushing and penciling will ever take you there. That doesn’t mean you should give up on the bold brow trend for good. Go all out and brush your brows up to crazy heights. Nothing’s holding you back, and who cares if they don’t look completely natural? A little shock factor never hurt anyone.
Blue eye makeup might bring to mind lioness curls and leg warmers, but it doesn’t have to. No, a sleek stripe of blue is the ultimate statement look for your 20s. When other girls are getting the hang of their cat-eye, you’re taking it a step further and adding this moody hue to the mix—and it’s never looked better.
