It looks like 2017 is set to be the year of big changes in beauty. We were taken aback this morning when we heard the news that one of the industry’s first pioneers is leaving her eponymous makeup brand. As reported by WWD, the owner of Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, Estée Lauder Companies, Inc., has announced that Brown will be leaving the brand—that has just celebrated its 25th birthday—by the end of this year, with Peter Lichtenthal, global brand president, continuing to oversee the business.

Brown has always been a pioneer of natural beauty—she’s the inspiration behind the no makeup makeup movement and her original mantra of ‘Be Who You Are’ still stands true today. The legendary makeup artist, editor and eponymous creative director has written eight books on makeup and beauty (that you’ll find stashed on every beauty editor’s desk) and is responsible for bringing us one of our most-loved beauty products—Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner ($38), which was the first of its kind when launched, and a staple come party season.

While Brown hasn’t commented on what might come next for her, sources close to WWD say that Brown is set to reveal her plans early next year. She hinted at changes ahead while celebrating the brand’s 25th anniversary earlier this year, saying, "[it was a milestone] that made me realise it was time to start a new chapter and move on to new ventures.” We can’t wait to hear what her next move will be.
