I was catching up with a friend the other day circa 3 p.m. (i.e., midday makeup touch-up time) when she pulled out a tiny nub of what used to a lip pencil, a very dull tiny nub at that. When I chastised her for committing one of the cardinal beauty sins, using a blunt pencil, she exclaimed equal dissatisfaction with the situation. She had no choice, she explained—the lip liner she’s used for decades has now become harder to track down than Lilly Pulitzer for Target. And I have a pretty good idea why…
