Kat Von D's Buzzy New Holographic Palette Has the Best Online Reviews
Another day, another highlighter launch. That's essentially what ran through my head as I unwrapped Kat Von D's newest palette this week. Thing is, I couldn't have been more wrong. Because, unlike the vast majority of similar products out there, this one took seven years to create. And, really, truly, cross my heart and hope to die—it was worth the wait. The compact is made up of four holographic strobing shades of varying colours (from iridescent green to luminous pink), but the noteworthy thing is the technology behind the formulas. Each shade is prismatic and refractive (fancy speak for "they catch the light from a lot of angles"), regardless of how little you apply. According to the brand, this is what creates the otherworldly glow reviewers have come to love.

In addition to its sculpting powers as a cheek-enhancing palette, the powders allow you to create textural, almost three-dimensional effects by layering them over both eyeshadow and lipstick. If you look online you'll find dozens of DIY combos involving everything from humble black eyeliner to blush. One of the most popular by far, is a dusting of either of the holographic powders over Kat Von D's Everlasting Liquid Lipstick ($30) in Witches, a matte black hue.
Having only been available for purchase for a handful of days, it speaks volumes that online reviews are already overwhelmingly glowing. Sephora's U.S. site lists 661 5-star reports of a total 892 (the vast majority of the rest are 4-star), and 80K Loves. My personal favourite assessment is titled "Alchemist is bae" and goes like this: "This palette adds the finishing touch you need to be so fabulous!" (Lizzzflowers, let's be friends?) That the Alchemist palette is also vegan, cruelty-free and limited-edition goes a long way towards inching it closer to snagging the official best highlighter kit of 2017. So, will it continue to reign supreme for eight more months? Only time will tell. (I vote probably, yes.)
