Admit it: When it comes to getting dressed, nothing's worse than being forced to forgo throwing on a cute skirt or a sleeveless top because you didn't have the time to shave your legs or your armpits last minute. Shaving can put a damper on your style, but it really shouldn't. How we would all love to exist in a (mostly) hair-free world devoid of nicks, razor burn, and painful ingrown hairs. Shaving is a process and—what's worse—a task that's required all too often if we want to stay smooth and stubble-free.
Unless you seek a more permanent solution, shaving is a necessary evil. Luckily, there are certain tricks that will change your shaving game forever and will help you maximise the time between shaves. Integrate these steps the next time you shave, and eventually, you'll see you need to shave less and less (meaning you can throw on that skirt and sleeveless top combo any time your heart desires).

Exfoliate
So much about a good shave is how you prep your skin. Exfoliating sloughs off dead skin cells that surround each hair follicle, which allows you to shave closest to the root of hair growth, reaching hairs that would otherwise be stuck under the skin. It also helps you get your hair on the same growth cycle. Exfoliating before shaving will prevent ingrown hairs, and it will leave you with a smoother, silkier finish.
Use a Multi-Blade Razor
It shouldn't come as a surprise that the quality of your razor will impact the quality of your shave. Avoid cheap, disposable single-blade options that come in multi-packs. A shave with a low-quality razor will end up being significantly less close to the skin, meaning you're more likely to have stubble, and you'll need to shave sooner (not to mention you're more likely to cut yourself). Instead, invest in a quality multi-blade razor that has built-in moisture, a cartridge that moves and accommodates the curves of your body, and blade refills you can swap out regularly. This will guarantee you a closer, more efficient shave, giving you smoother, longer-lasting results.
Go Against the Grain
While when shaving sensitive areas like the bikini area, you'll want to shave in the direction your hair grows, and when it comes to areas like your legs, shave against the grain. You'll have to be more careful with your technique to avoid nicks and irritation, but the results will be worth it. Also be sure to shave at all angles. Not every hair grows in the same direction, so going over an area up, down, and across ups your chances of getting every hair, giving you the closest shave possible and extending the time until you'll need to shave again.
Moisturise with Soy
Keeping skin moisturised is an essential step in shaving less, but the moisturisers you choose can make an impact too. Studies have shown that products with soy have been effective at stunting hair growth and reducing hair follicle dimension. Find a body moisturiser in which soy is a star ingredient and slather it on shortly after shaving, and then reapply as necessary.
Try an Alternative
If you're really committed to reducing how often you shave, you may want to consider an alternative solution. Waxing can be done in lieu of shaving, though some are wary of the pain. A laser is a more permanent (but also relatively painful) solution, where you can see an end to hair growth on the treated area in as few as six sessions. Unlike with waxing, when undergoing laser treatments you can shave between sessions, and each time you'll witness less and less hair growth.
