"The Hormone Whisperer" on How to Prevent Hormonal Breakouts

Just when we thought puberty's passing took unsightly teenage acne with it, we were introduced to a new wave  of hormonal acne in our 20s. Right around the time of our periods, acne flares up along our jawline, cheeks, and forehead (ok, everywhere), adding insult to injury. It's just one more thing we can hold against men.

But we come bearing good news: Hormonal acne is preventable, so says certified "hormone whisperer," HHC, and AADP Alisa Vitti. And the best part? You can do it with food.

Vitti explains that hormonal acne is the result of an endocrine imbalance, specifically for women who can't process hormones correctly. During the time of your period, your oestrogen and testosterone levels are at their highest, and some women can't properly eliminate them. And since the skin is the largest elimination organ, acne occurs (among other fun hormonal issues).

Here's the thing: Your skin works systematically with your digestive organs and liver to eliminate toxins and waste, so if you're wondering why no amount of acne creams or washes are helping your pre- and post-period breakouts, it's because the issue is much deeper.
