How a Cool Girl From Hong Kong Is Influenced by Japanese Beauty
It’s here: 31 days. 31 cities. 31 perspectives. Each day in the month of March, we’re profiling an inspiring woman from across the world and asking her to share her beauty routine, products, and wellness secrets. Consider this your firsthand look into the beauty traditions and cultures of your beauty-obsessed counterparts from Thailand, Nigeria, and more (and don’t forget to check our Instagram for a beauty-themed global takeover each day). Following Lisa Debatty, a Brazil-based woman who spent the last 12 years living in France, we have Evelyn Choi, a Hong Kong–based blogger.

What countries and cultures do you find most inspirational when it comes to beauty and why?
I think Japanese culture beauty-wise inspires me the most. It’s because the innocence brought from the Japanese beauty culture enhances one’s naturalness. Japanese beauty culture pursues natural beauty, but at the same time, they never stop innovating new technology to improve their level of cosmetic products.
What is/are the most popular beauty product(s) and brand(s) in your country right now?
1. Armani beauty red lipstick
2. Origins Mega-Mushroom lotion
What are the most popular beauty trends in your country right now (e.g., glass skin)?
Peach blush, simple eyeliner, and highly moisturising products.
What is your favourite traditional beauty secret from your country?
Drink honey lemon water every morning to clean up your stomach. It helps all the bad things leave your body to keep your skin in a good mood.
Where you buy beauty products?
I usually go to their store, but sometimes I’ll shop on Lane Crawford’s website.
What does “healthy living” mean to you?
It means drinking more water, eating less junk food, and keeping yourself happy. Also, walk and work out more.
How do you define/practice “self-care”?
Believe what you believe and walk the way you wanna walk. Trust yourself more and always love yourself.
What’s your favourite way to stay active and why?
I like to find a day or a night to be alone. I enjoy the alone time to think. I usually choose to walk back home if the location is not too far away. What I can do is listen to a song I love and enjoy the view. The only time I can calm myself and think about all the stuff about myself.
What are the most popular wellness trends in your country right now?
Fitness classes and detoxes are very popular right now. Also, learning to stay positive when you’re approaching 30.
