This Tropical Flower Is Also a Potent Anti-Ageing Ingredient

When it comes to skincare, we can never get enough. We’re forever jumping on the bandwagon of the latest buzzy ingredient that’s circulating in the beauty world. Florals in skincare aren’t exactly new (think: rosewater and lavender), but there’s a new lesser known bloom in town that’s boasting some powerful anti-ageing benefits.

The hibiscus flower may be traditionally associated with the tourist shirts your dad wore on your annual family vacation, but it turns out you don’t have to make a trip to Oahu to reap the benefits of this skin superhero. Paula Begoun of Paula’s Choice tells us that in extract form, hibiscus is actually chock full of anti-agers. “The extracted flower contains significant amounts of vitamin C, anthocyanins, and polyphenols,” she explains. To further break that down, hibiscus is packed with antioxidants, which work to minimise the ageing effects of free radicals. So, this tropical flower is more than something to stick behind your ear on vacation, it also works hard to prevent premature lines and wrinkles.
