Why Gigi Hadid’s Pony-Braid Is the Perfect ‘Do for Hot Summer Days
If you live in Sydney you'll know that currently the humidity is OUT OF CONTROL. This past week has featured an annoying mashup of sun and rain, which has resulted in more frizz-inducing dankness than I thought possible. Usually, when the weather turns this muggy, I stop trying to do my hair beyond scraping it back and hoping for the best. Mostly because no matter what I do, or which products I use, the second I step outside my hair turns into a fluffball.
Enter Gigi Hadid and her sporty pony-braid, aka the perfect 'do for humid summer days. By cleverly braiding the top front section of her hair, then pulling the rest into a ponytail, Hadid successfully sidesteps the annoying frizz that often forms around the hairline. (Hair touching sweaty skin = fluff for days.) There's still a swish in the ponytail itself, which I imagine comes courtesy of a hot tong, but the rest is tightly combed back. To DIY, I suggest dusting a volumising powder like Moosehead's Thicken-Up Styling Powder ($9) through your roots for grip, then braiding two 1.5" sections of hair back to the crown. Next, temporarily clip them in place to prevent the braids from unraveling, then use a fine-tooth comb to pull everything back into a pony and secure. If you're feeling it, add a few waves to the pony with a hot tong, then mist all over with flexible hairspray for hold. I'll definitely be trying this tomorrow and most-likely keeping it on standby for the whole of summer.
