This Is the Most Australian DIY Hair Treatment on the Internet

I love a beauty DIY as much as the next girl, but I’m not super into skin hacks. Call me boring but I like to stick with tried-and-true brands when it comes to my face. (Plus, a mate once tried a do-it-yourself lemon juice toner and called me in tears—the homemade concoction left her red and blotchy for days.) That said, I am particularly fond of homemade hair masks. They’re generally quick and easy, and depending on what you use to make them, not much can go wrong.
I’ve been playing around with Pinterest-inspired concoctions for years (before Pinterest was a thing, in fact), so I can safely say I’ve tried my fair share. Handcrafted hot oil elixirs? Love them. Coconut oil and egg yolk strengthening treatments? Some do a better job than the store-bought stuff. But until now, I’d never heard of using aloe vera as a hair gloss. In what is potentially the most Australian DIY on the internet, PureWow suggests applying the stereotypical sunburn soother to your strands post-shampoo. Apparently, aloe’s moisturising properties extend beyond calming sun-zapped skin, and onto softening hair.
Considering the ingredient has moisture-binding abilities and is widely used in nourishing shampoos, I'm inclined to believe the hype. I'll definitely be trying this Aussie hair hack in conjunction with my favourite colour-depositing conditioner from Evo ($40) this summer.
