Now Trending: Colour-Changing Hair Dye (Seriously)

Katharine McEntee

If you thought temporary hair dye was cool, then you’re about to be blown away by colour changing hair dye. Thanks to data visualisation scientist Lauren Bowker, there is a new kind of hair dye that changes its colour based on temperature, and its name is Fire.

So just how does Fire hair dye work? According to Bowker, the colour change is possible due to a chemical reaction. She tells Dazed, "When heat hits the pigment, or if the cool hits the pigment, it changes the bonds of the chemistry to give you a different colour." So, for instance, "If you have red hair and you're in the wind it might go blue," says Bowker.

And while Bowker has yet to release Fire hair dye, it is set to debut at London Fashion Week. Until then, Bowker's Instagram is filled with mesmerising videos in which you can watch Fire hair dye work its magic. To see the colour-changing hair dye in action, scroll down and watch the videos below.
