How to Wake Up With Better Skin and Hair (For Real)
PSA from a beauty editor: Beauty sleep is a real thing IF you take the time to indulge in a few easy tips and tricks. Some life facts, waking up to a blaring alarm clock on a Monday is tough, and we all enjoy it when we look and feel our best. Agree? Great. With that in mind, I’ve put together 5 of my most sacred editor hacks to waking up with better skin and hair overnight. Keep scrolling to try them out and tell us what you think!
Slip Pure Silk Pillowcase ($80)
I’ve heard this one for years, most recently from Kourtney Kardashian who swears by it. Silk pillowcases cut down on those pesky face creases and imprints and are said to reduce lines in the long run. Regardless of pillowcase type, I always try to sleep on my back for the same reason.
Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate ($64)
It's hard to remember what life was like before I discovered repairing night serums. Sleep is a time for your body to recuperate from the day. Why not allow your skin to do the same thing? Lightly massage 3 drops of Kiehl’s' essential oil-based formula onto your face and neck post-moisturiser and your skin will feel firmer, brighter, and softer by morning.
A few years ago I gave up consuming caffeine and refined sugar post lunch. Avoiding these stimulants improved not only the depth of my sleep but the way my skin and body feel when I wake up in the morning. Inversely, I’ve found beauty products containing caffeine help a great deal with under eye circles in the morning and obviously coffee and healthy sugars from fruit like berries makes us feel more awake. There's a time for everything!
Ghd Paddle Brush ($34)
This trick is especially useful if you have long, fine hair like this editor. It might be the last time of day you feel like fixing your hair, but I’ve found that brushing out tangles at night with the help of a conditioning spray can result in amazing morning hair.
I personally use a paddle brush which, if I'm being blunt, is not the norm. Most beauty lovers swear by an option with boar bristles but that just makes my fine hair frizzy. I also use Unite 7seconds Condition Leave In Detangler. When I’m done I put my hair in a loose low ponytail with a ribbon tie.
