Want Bigger Eyes? Try Bella Hadid’s Easy Eyeshadow Trick
Bella Hadid stole the show at the 69th Annual Cannes Film Festival Opening Night Gala in a glittering, nude Roberto Cavalli gown, but it was makeup artist Patrick Ta’s eye-opening shadow trickery that really had us in raptures. Ta was going for a clean and bright makeup look with a focus on flawless skin, subtle contour and soft smoky eyes. (Obviously he nailed it.)
Ta prepped Hadid's skin with a generous layer of Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Cream ($125) to boost luminosity. Next, he applied Light Wonder Foundation ($70) and concealed imperfections with The Retoucher ($57). To complete the canvas, Ta softly contoured cheekbones with Filmstar Bronze and Glow ($97), added a pop of colour with tawny blush, then set everything in place with a light dusting of powder.
Ta says Hadid wanted her eyes to look "clean and bright", so he skipped traditional liner (which can make eyes appear smaller), in favour of a combo of eyeshadows. Ta layered shadows from The Luxury Palettes ($78) in The Sophisticate and The Dolce Vita on lids, then, using a chocolate brown shadow and angled brush, etched a thin wing from half way across the lid, smudging it outwards. The effect was smoky but subtle, and delivered drama without visually closing the eye in—clever. The finishing touches: volumising mascara and a fresh nude lip, courtesy of K.I.S.S.I.N.G in Penelope Pink ($48).
