The Only Products You Need to Pack This Long Weekend

Lisa Patulny

No matter where you’re headed this long weekend, you can be sure of one thing: Packing to go anywhere is a bore. Not only that, attempting to edit your beauty products down into a single suitcase—or worse, a carry-on bag—can be maddening. For me, the process can involve many probing questions that reveal my dependence on everything from dry shampoo to BB cream. Questions such as: How many times in three days could I wear red lipstick? (A: Not enough to bring six options). And, should I pack faux tan in case I feel like bronzing? (A: No. Because I never do).

After a month-long trip overseas forced me to learn how to multi-task with all sorts of products (and also made the difference between must-pack and won’t-use items glaringly clear), I’ve got the process down to a fine art. Here, I’ve pulled together the mutli-purpose products I’ll be packing for my long weekend at the beach, plus two more lists for a cosy country escape and city retreat. Keep scrolling to find out what to pack for your long weekend!

ModelCo Daily Face Mattifying Sunscreen and Lipbalm SPF50+ ($25)

Your moisturiser, sun protection and a lightweight base in one, tinted sunscreen is a clever way to trim down your morning routine. This one has lip balm in the cap which also makes it a space-saver.

Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo ($10)

Not all hair responds well to salt water, but if yours does, skip the shampoo and make the most of your tousled texture. Pack a travel-sized can of dry shampoo to keep your roots fresh.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Zero Smudge Lengthening Mascara ($48)

Waterproof mascara can be a pain to remove, especially without remover (which takes up room). Go for a tubing version and it will come off with regular cleanser, but not in the ocean.

The Base LB Cream ($24)

Being outdoors is good for the soul, but not always great for your complexion. A BB cream hydrates and protects, and offers light coverage plus a whole host of other skincare benefits.

SK-II Skin Signature 3D Refining Mask ($190)

What are country weekends for, if not pamper time? A single sachet cloth or sheet mask slips into the smallest of travel bags and can do the job of a mini-facial in minutes.

Kit Cosmetics Essential Kit Multipurpose Wonder Balm ($23)

Use it to treat bug bites, heal chapped lips, as makeshift highlighter or to seal split ends. You can even use it to remove makeup in a pinch.

Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Foundation SPF 25 ($85)

Leave the bulk of your skincare at home and take along a serum foundation instead. You’ll get perfected skin both on application and over time (bonus).

100% Pure Lip & Cheek Tint in Peach Glow ($31)

A two-in-one you can wear during the day or out at night. Choose a nude or peachy shade and cream or gel formula and it will work on eyes, too.

Evo Shebang-A-Bang Dry Spray Wax ($30)

Hotel shampoo and conditioner can be hit and miss. This styling spray is a save-all—it revives limp hair like dry shampoo can, whilst delivering enough texture to disguise dry ends too.
