Lady Gaga Just Posted About Fibromyalgia on Social Media, But What Is It?
Lady Gaga is mostly known for her outrageous fashion and beauty choices and amazing contribution for modern pop culture, but the singer is no stranger to being vocal about more serious issues (like politics and marriage equality). Lady Gaga has spoken out on her suffering from chronic pain for quite some time now, however just two days ago she tweeted about her short upcoming Netflix Documentary (already available in the US) that she actually suffers from fibromyalgia.
The tweet received a plenty of positivity online from both fans and fellow sufferers (at the time of writing this article, it's been re-tweeted more than 6000 times). But what actually is fibromyalgia? While we know it has something to do with her chronic pain, the actual illness itself is not widely talked about.
Keep scrolling for all the information.
According to the National Health Service of England (NHS), fibromyalgia is a "long term condition that causes pain all over the body". Sufferers can also experience "fatigue, muscle stiffness, difficulty sleeping, problems with mental processes, headaches and Irritable Bowel Syndrome". While the cause is unknown, the NHS states that it's thought to be related to "abnormal levels of certain chemicals in the brain and changes in the way the central nervous system processes pain messages carried around the body".
There's also no known cure, aside from certain medication, therapy and lifestyle changes, but every case is different, and not all will respond to the above treatment. Lady Gaga has spoken out about her personal journey and how she manages day to day (especially as she's a performer with a very demanding schedule). She credits infrared saunas, ice baths, and silver emergency blankets for managing symptoms, but if you're experiencing anything that's concerning you, speak to your doctor.
I was so overwhelmed by the empathy, confessions & personal stories of chronic pain in response to my previous post I thought what the hell. Maybe I should just share some of my personal remedies I've acquired over the past five years. Everyone's body and condition is different U should consult w ure Dr. but what the heck here we go! When my body goes into a spasm one thing I find really helps is infrared sauna. I've invested in one. They come in a large box form as well as a low coffin-like form and even some like electric blankets! You can also look around your community for a infrared sauna parlor or homeopathic center that has one. I combine this treatment with marley silver emergency blankets (seen in the photo) that trap in the heat and are very cheap, reusable and effective for detox as well as weight loss! In order to not overheat my system and cause more inflammation i follow this with either a VERY cold bath, ice bath (if u can stand it, it's worth it) or the most environmentally savvy way is to keep many reusable cold packs in the freezer ( or frozen peas' n carrots'!) and pack them around the body in all areas of pain. Hope this helps some of you, it helps me to keep doing my passion, job and the things I love even on days when I feel like I can't get out of bed. Love you and thank you for all your positive messages.
