Wear White After Labour Day--On Your Eyes!
White nail polish was de rigueur this summer, but next spring? The shade (or lack thereof) is moving to your eyes. And since there’s a good chance you’re still hanging onto your summer tan, why not try it now?
At Kate Spade New York’s presentation, makeup artist Neil Scibelli painted a traditional black cat eye with Jouer’s Liquid Shimmer Eyeliner ($22) in Panther, but added a line of Make Up Forever’s Aquarelle Liquid Paint ($21) in white on the lower lashline “to add dimension and drama,” giving the classically dramatic look a fun twist. Makeup artist Alice Lane ditched the dark at Tibi’s runway show, rimming the whole eye with Maybelline’s Studio Colour Tattoo ($6) in Too Cool, an icy white, for a “part-grunge, part bohemian” look.
Meanwhile, at Altuzarra, Tom Pecheux used M.A.C.’s Pro Pure Paint Stick ($21) in White to make the sophisticated red lips feel “more cool.” Iridescent whites ruled at Creatures of the Wind and 3.1 Philip Lim; both shows made liberal use of Nars’ Duo Eyeshadow ($34) in Iceland. And at Christian Siriano, makeup artist Polly Osmond layered the Incadescent shade from Hourglass’ forthcoming Ambient Lighting Palette (try their Lighting Powder ($45) in Ethereal for now) over Shell, from the Vol.6 Eyeshadow Palette ($58).
If you were thinking about giving the no mascara thing a shot—this might be a good time. Otherwise consider using a brown mascara instead of black for a softer finish against whichever white pigment you choose.
