Reviewed: Vincent Longo Tinted Moisturizer + Crème Concealer
As beauty editors, we get bombarded with a ton of new products every day (we know—tough life). Reviewed is a new series where we report on some of the best products we’ve tried. Whether it’s a drugstore lipstick that lasted all day or a hand cream that saved us this winter, you’ll find all of our favourites in this column. Enjoy!
In my opinion, Vincent Longo is one of the most underrated, under-appreciated/spoken-about/praised lines in the whole of the beauty world. Though it certainly has its cult following among makeup artists, it’s just not widely known among consumers. I was first turned on to his products seven-plus years ago in a Sephora, and for all of 2008 I wore his innovative Water Canvas foundation, constantly receiving compliments for how my skin looked when I was wearing it. I was fairly devastated when I heard he was going out of business, and Sephora stopped carrying his products later that year. I didn’t quite realise it at the time, but it was because like so many business in 2008, the brand suffered from the effects of the economic downturn and financial crisis that year. Several years later, to my supreme joy, the line was introduced in Nordstrom stores (where it is sold today) and, to my additional delight, has been making new products while continuing to manufacture its heroes, like the Water Canvas Foundation.
Needless to say, I was overjoyed as a beauty editor to recently be sent a package of new Vincent Longo products to pore through and discover the magic of. What drew my to the line initially and has kept my loyalty all the while is that the products—from the formula to the method of application—are incomparable to others (to this day, I’ve never encountered another product that comes close to the texture of the Water Canvas Foundation). So many formulas are a dime a dozen. But you never try one of Longo's products and think “this reminds me of xyz” or, conversely, try something that reminds you of Vincent Longo. Everything is unique, high performance, and truly original. Enter his Ultra Light Canvas Tinted Moisturizer With Crème Concealer, which is my new favourite skin product ever.
The product comes in a sleek tube with a twist-off cap. When you remove the cap, you can squeeze out the utterly creamy and hydrating—yet utterly lightweight—tinted moisturizer. But of course that’s not all. The cap reveals a flip-up mirror, with the creamiest and best concealer I have ever used. I have tried tens upon tens of concealers that have left me wanting and confused as to how concealer is a category of makeup women swear by, because I haven’t found a single one that actually conceals my dark spots and blemishes—and doesn’t end up drying, fading quickly, caking, or making the spot I’m trying to conceal look legitimately worse. I have thrown concealers into the trash in anger at their lack of effectiveness. But this one has blown me away. It stays literally all day—like 12 hours of coverage (I put it on at 8 a.m., I came home at 10 p.m., and my spots were still covered, I kid you not)—and is so smooth, creamy, and full-coverage that it makes me want to spoon my finger through it like pudding. It is a dream consistency and masks blemishes like magic. It does exactly what a concealer is supposed to do but what all others have failed at for me: It actually conceals every visible imperfection on your face, like a magic eraser, leaving behind a smooth and even-looking canvas.
Getting back to the concept of the product, though, it’s absolutely genius. Here you have in ONE carry-in-your-bag product, the only skin item you really need for summer: a broad-spectrum SPF 20 tinted moisturizer that provides protection from the sun, dewy hydration without making you look oily, along with lightweight coverage; and on its tippy-toe end, it offers a cute little cap-full of creamy, full-coverage concealer (and a mirror) to dot onto any stubborn spots that the tinted moisturizer just didn’t get—zits, scars, dark spots, etc. Because that’s the thing everyone always needs in a tinted moisturizer or lightweight foundation—it’s never quite enough to mask problem areas, so you always end up needing something else to provide more coverage. So this product provides your two-in-one, does-it-all skin coverage for a radiant, fresh-looking face. I’ve been wearing it every day, and it’s completely replaced my need for foundation. It is the one product I will be taking with me everywhere this summer and beyond. It’s genius; there’s just nothing else to say about that.
Best of all, it doesn’t irritate my highly sensitive, breakout-prone skin. It’s made without parabens, silicone, and fragrances, which is a dream for someone who suffers from perioral dermatitis. A product without those ingredients and that’s actually high performance is rare in the beauty world, which is just another reason Vincent Longo deserves more credit. I cannot recommend this product enough! Would you just look at that mirror-concealer-cap?! Talk about making a multitasking, consumer-friendly beauty product to satisfy a need. All I can say is thank you, Vincent Longo.
