The Sensitive-Skin Face Cream Our Editor Swears By
As a beauty editor I get to try an overwhelming amount of skincare products—serums, creams, masks, you name it!—but it’s a simple, drugstore brand moisturizer that I consider my biggest must-have.
OK, so it’s a French drugstore brand, but still, it’s pretty basic. At least, it looks that way at first. La Roche Posay’s Tolerine Ultra ($37) is a medium weight, unscented, standard-feeling lotion. But its effects on your skin are remarkable: after soaking in immediately, it leaves my skin smoother and more hydrated than anyting else I've used.
The cream doesn't just soften, it's also free of irritating ingredients like preservatives, parabens, fragrance, alcohol, colorants, or lanolin (an animal-based allergen sometimes found in skincare). Bonus? It boasts a unique ingredient called neurosensine, which helps to cut down on redness and irritation. And it comes in a vacuum-sealed package that prevents oxidation, contamination, and cuts down on product waste (I use exactly two pumps both day and night).
Don’t take my word for it: the brand did a study that shows 90 per cent of users experienced immediate skin relief and 82 per cent had long-lasting skin relief from redness, dryness, and irritation after four weeks. If your skin is even remotely sensitive or dry, you need this in your medicine cabinet.
