This $13 Foundation Has A Waiting List of Over 25,000 People

by Kaitlyn McLintock

Contrary to its name, skincare brand The Ordinary is anything but. Its chic and unassuming serum bottles have found permanent homes on the bathroom counters of many Byrdie editors. Simple, concentrated ingredients without any additives or fragrances result in a product that's as effective as it is inexpensive (think under $15 each). The Ordinary is the minimalist of skincare—taking a no-frills approach to clear, healthy skin.

So when we heard that the brand is expanding into the cosmetics market, we stood at attention. And not just any cosmetics—The Ordinary is taking on the beast, the behemoth, of makeup products by releasing new foundation. The product has already shaken things up by garnering a waiting list of over 25,000 people. Oh, and did we mention it's only $13? Yes, nine dollars. Keep reading to find out when, where, and how to get your hands on this much-anticipated foundation.

The Ordinary's foundations will come in two slightly different formulations. First, we have the serum foundations, which offer light to medium coverage with a super-lightweight feel. Then there are the coverage foundations, which offer—yes, you guessed it—more coverage. However, they do so without a cakey look or feel. As the brand states, the coverage foundations "contain higher pigment levels in a non-oily cream texture but still offer a smooth finish that avoids the heavy makeup look that can make skin appear more aged."

Thanks to a special pigment suspension technology, both foundations are formulated to look and feel amazing on the skin. According to the brand, "The pigments used in both formats are treated for a rich, highly saturated effect. These pigments are suspended in our proprietary spreadability system that allows pigments to look natural on the skin, resist collecting within fine lines, and stay on for longer."

Both the serum and coverage foundations will be available in 21 shades, meaning your perfect match could be just around the corner.

If you're dying to get your hands on this new product, make sure you're notified when it launches (which they say will be sometime mid-April). Join the waiting list here. Until then, check out The Ordinary's amazing face serums like its age-defying Retinol 1% ($12) or skin-brightening Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres 2% ($9).
