This Former Olympian Shares the Motivational Tip That Changed Her Life
It's fair to say fitness expert Stephanie Prem knows more about self-motivation than most. The former Olympian suffered a career-ending injury in 2010 in which she broke her back and multiple ribs, compressed two discs and dislocated a hip. Prem, who calls herself a "life enthusiast", went through extensive rehab following the accident, and has since bounced back as a Pilates guru and founder of digital publication Premium Performance. We sat down with Prem, who also happens to be a Priceline Pharmacy Sister and ambassador for the brand's Women's Health Checks, to talk all things beauty and wellness. In addition to some stellar advice on how to wear makeup to the gym ("I own a studio so I always try to have a basic face on—my go-to is BB cream, bronzer, a little bit of lash, and some Lucas’ Papaw cream"), we got a glimpse into how this inspirational woman picks herself up when she's feeling flat.

According to Prem, she's not immune to feeling discouraged or even bored when it comes to fitness: "I think everyone feels demotivated sometimes, myself included—being in the industry doesn’t mean I don’t have those days as well." The difference between Prem and your average Jane is that having come back from an injury (prior to which she acknowledges she "took health for granted"), she now has a clear grasp on what being fit *really* means. "We all need to be more proactive about our health, instead of reactive. We’re all waiting for something to happen—we need to lose weight, or we need to get healthier, or summer’s coming... That's when we do something about it."
So how does she suggest you keep yourself fighting fit through inevitable lulls in interest? "The biggest thing for me motivation-wise is just to have a routine—it’s just to keep on going. If you find something that works for you and that you enjoy, it will help you get out of bed in the morning. A healthy lifestyle is about finding things that work for you and make you feel like your healthiest and happiest self. When it comes to motivation it’s all about doing things you love frequently and proactively." Feeling inspired? Try this 10-minute Pilates GIF workout with Lindsay Ellingson.
