Baby bangs—short, retro-inspired fringe—have been popping up on everyone from Rihanna to Alexa Chung to Taylor Swift lately. We credit the F/W 13 runway: hairstylist Guido Palau razored short, choppy bangs at Marc Jacobs, while hairstylist Odile Gilbert added blunt, clip-in bangs to create a futuristic fringe at Thakoon. The real-world translation is less dramatic, however. Chung is keeping hers piecey and just above her brows, Imogen Poots went blunt, and Rihanna’s are full-on punk.
Although bangs do take daily styling, you don’t have to be chained to a blow-dryer. Follow Dexter-Jones’ lead and push your fringe to the side for an effortless look. (Spritz with L’Oreal’s Everstyle Texture Series Beach Waves Spray ($6) while wet to get that matte texture!)
We first took notice of Wasikowska’s bangs in March when hairstylist Ryan Trygstad made them short and choppy—a style she’s still rocking. He suggests using a flat iron to make them straight, then setting with Elnett.
The French actress gave her short fringe a heavy dose of texture for a movie premiere in Germany last month. Try Bumble and bumble’s Sumotech ($27) to get definition and hold.
Embrace the retro feeling of short bangs like Poots, who paired her ‘do with an equally vintage-inspired Prada dress and red lip at the London premiere of Filth.
