The 5-Minute Crop Top Workout
News flash: Crop tops aren’t going anywhere anytime soon, much to the chagrin of anyone who isn’t Lily Aldridge. Luckily, there’s still time to tone up before summer descends—and we’re here to help. We asked Derek DeGrazio, celebrity trainer and managing partner at Barry’s Bootcamp Miami Beach (Ellie Goulding is one of his clients), to share a quick ab-sculpting workout that actually works—so much better than mindlessly doing crunches. The best part? You can take this workout anywhere, so no more excuses. Keep scrolling to see the ab-defining regimen!
“Leg raises target the lower abs,” DeGrazaio tells us. “That’s the first place we store fat and the last place we lose fat—it’s why we do it twice in this workout cycle.” Scroll below for a video on how to do straight leg raises!
DeGrazio says straight-leg flutter kicks are good for stability and overall core strength and will give you the toned look you want. Keep scrolling for a video on how to do straight-leg flutter kicks.
Like the straight-leg flutter kicks, a plank will help strengthen your overall core strength and engage your inner core muscles—as your ab muscles become stronger, your midsection will tighten. Below is a video on how to do a plank correctly.
“The bicycle kicks introduce the angle we need to get that V-shaped stomach everyone wants,” DeGrazio says. In fact, in a study sponsored by the American Council on Exercise, researchers found that bicycle kicks were the best exercise for strengthening the rectus abdominis, which comprises the V-shaped muscles DeGrazio mentions. And finally, end your set with another round of straight leg raises. If you’re a beginner, don’t be afraid to take small breaks during sets if needed. “The idea is to repeat until failure,” DeGrazio says. “Do as many reps as you can in each 60-second set. If you need a break, take it quickly, then keep going!” And remember, a healthy diet and cardio will help you on your journey to a tight, toned tummy.
