If you're big into superstitions like I am, you may have come across a few related to New Year's Eve. Did you know, for instance, that eating twelves grapes at midnight is meant to guarantee you an equally sweet year? (Conversely, a single sour one may mean a poor month ahead, so choose carefully.) It's also said that evil spirits hate loud noise, which is possibly the best excuse I've heard for throwing a rager. Beauty-wise, I observe my own NYE superstitions. Though entirely made up by me, I'll admit, they're fun quasi-rituals I've come to keep out of habit. Firstly, I always make an effort to have a festive mani and pedi. Somehow seeing my freshly painted fingers nursing a saucer of champagne seems to work out as a good omen for a year of slick grooming ahead. I also always choose a fun new beauty look to try on NYE. That one was born one year, when after having received a bunch of compliments on a gold shimmery eye situation I had constructed, I decided to pay it forward. Since then it's morphed into a personal custom that involves saying nice things to everyone I see on NYE. It's my simple way of feeding positive vibes into the universe.
Keen to make this NYE my most beautiful one yet, I reached out to PORTER's beauty director Newby Hands for a handy beauty editor-approved skin and makeup product checklist. Ahead, you'll find her pick of the bunch for transforming everything from dull teeth to tired skin just in time for the countdown. Because feeling your best on NYE might sound like just another thing to grapple with this time of year, but can actually be a chance for you to set your resolutions for the future. (Yes, even if your intention is "finally do skincare right this year".) No danger of potential sour grapes required.

"So many mascaras just aren’t black enough but this one coats lashes in a really deep, dark black. Plus, it stays put and doesn’t leave lashes looking 'crispy' or clogged."
