This Quick Makeup Hack Is Why Meghan Markle Never Looks Tired

We're kind of obsessed with Meghan Markle for two reasons. The first is that she's essentially living out the plot of a Disney movie by marrying a real-life prince (hi, Prince Harry!). Aside from Grace Kelly, who wed the Prince of Monaco back in the 1950s, Markle is officially the closest any American has come to becoming royalty. But I digress. The second reason is that we love her beauty style. Her hair is always full and shiny, her makeup pared-back and perfect, and her complexion glowy and radiant.

Lucky for us, she recently opened up about her beauty routine to Birchbox. She spoke a little bit about her favourite products, the habits she swears by, and the advice she follows—including the little thing she does every day to look wide awake, no matter how early her wakeup call is. Keep scrolling to learn about Markle's beauty routine.

In the interview, Markle praises the powers of the humble eyelash curler for making her look more wide awake, and we agree. Sometimes, just curling our lashes on a particularly early morning helps us look more alert than we feel. Markle's favourite is the Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler. "Even if you don't have a stitch of makeup on," she says, "you suddenly look a bit more alive."

After using the lash curler, she reaches for one of YSL's cult favourites: the Touche Éclat pen. It's a highlighting pen that imparts radiant, sheer coverage wherever you apply it (which is why we like to layer it atop a regular under-eye concealer to help disguise dull, dark circles). "To open up your eyes, apply a highlighter like Yves Saint Laurent’s Touche Éclat in the inner corner—this trick is especially good when we are filming at 3 a.m. and I need to look bright eyed and bushy tailed," she says.

Aside from her two eye-opening tricks, she relies on facial exercises to lift and firm her complexion. This is similar to one of our favourite beauty rituals: facial massage. Whether you use a massage device or jade roller or just your hands, it increases circulation and brings more oxygen to the skin's surface. As for Markle's facial exercises, she learned them from her aesthetician. "I do facial exercises from one of my favourite aestheticians, Nicola Joss, who basically has you sculpt your face from the inside out. I swear it works, as silly as you may feel. On the days I do it, my cheekbones and jawline are waaaay more sculpted. There’s a reason she is in high demand around awards season when every actress wants to look A-plus."
