How Gigi Hadid's Favourite Mascara Influenced Maticevski's Runway Look
Fashion Week Australia officially kicked off on Sunday with Maticevski's stunning Resort collection, and we're already feeling the urge to name it as a favourite of the week. (Check ByrdieBeautyAU on Snapchat for a closer look!) The clothes were epic (standard), as was the makeup, hair and nails (again, always), but the standout beauty element for us was the Gigi Hadid-inspired lashes.
Maybelline Volum' Express The Falsies Flared Mascara ($20)
Maybelline makeup director Nigel Stanislaus told us his inspiration for the overall look came from the clothes, resulting in "beautiful, ethereal skin", a subtle wash of colour on lids and mussed up, "chaotic" lashes. Said lashes were created using Hadid's favourite mascara, (Falsies Push Up Drama—available June 1), and a very unique technique. Artists held mascara wands vertically and swept back and forth along both the upper and lower lashlines, creating a dramatic, graphic effect.
Maybelline The Nudes Palette ($26)
The lashes were a gorgeous accent on an almost-naked eye, created using the brand's yet-to-be-released Blushed Nudes Eyeshadow Palette, which Stanislaus called "the next-level up" from last season's bestselling nude shadow kit (above). Each model wore a different shade washed over the lids to emphasise her individual eye colour, with any leftover colour on the brush run under the cheekbones for a very subtle contour.
As for the rest of the face, there was a customised foundation application for each model, with makeup artists dabbing Dream Velvet Foundation (also on counters June 1) onto the skin and blending with fingers. "If you notice, [the models] have very little foundation. We have top girls here [with perfect skin], they're the best in the country basically." With such flawless complexions (helped along by Clarisonic's prep work pre-makeup), the highlight of choice was none other than Baby Lips. The cult balm was dabbed on the high points of the face, including the centre of lids, for subtle gleam.
