The Secret to Lauren Conrad’s Signature Winged Liner, Revealed

Lisa Patulny

The woman partly responsible for Lauren Conrad’s transformation from super sun-kissed waves and manicured brows circa The Hills to the polished beauty icon she is today, is makeup artist Amy Nadine. Nadine (of The Beauty Department fame) revealed 10 of her favourite beauty tricks for Marie Claire but there’s one in particular that has us excited—the hack behind Conrad’s signature winged liner. If you’ve tried (and failed) to achieve a perfect cat eye at home, you should be excited because... it’s actually easy.

Nadine’s trick addresses those annoying gaps at your lashline that most liquid liner pens just can’t reach. (You know the ones left bare unless you tightline? Them.) For perfect wings, she recommends layering kohl underneath your regular liquid liner to ensure the colour reaches all the way to the lashline: "Smudge it between your lashes, then take liquid liner and sweep it [on top] into the cat eye."

As for nailing the perfect feline flick, Nadine says tracing on the entire shape with kohl then following with liquid liner is a solid plan. "[Brush] it on in little increments, starting from the inner corner along the lash line. When it comes time for the flick, look at the curve of the bottom-lash line and draw the flick at that same angle."

Two of our go-to liners: Clinique’s Kohl Shaper for Eyes ($36), and ModelCo’s Lash & Line Superlash Mascara and Liquid Eyeliner ($24).
