La Prairie Anti-Aging Eye and Lip Perfection à Porter ($205)

As beauty editors, we get bombarded with a tonne of new products every day (we know—tough life). Reviewed is a series where we report on some of the best products we’ve tried. Whether it’s a drugstore lipstick that lasted all day or a hand cream that saved us this winter, you’ll find all of our favourites in this column. Enjoy!

I have my morning and nightly routine down to a science. I’ve become very accustomed to the cleanse, spritz, purify, moisturise, and treat portion of my night; then I repeat it all come morning. I’ve stayed decidedly brand-loyal throughout my career (a feat, I assure you), but this new product has shaken my daily methods to their very core. OK, so maybe I’m being a bit dramatic—but it is good.

At first glance, it looks like a common compact—I thought perhaps it was a fancy pressed powder. But once I unzipped the package (it comes with a chic white carrying case, FYI) I noticed it was dual-ended. One side was marked eyes and the other lips. I carefully opened the first compartment to find a rich, velvety cream-gel hybrid and excitedly smoothed it onto my lids and under-eyes. (I’m known to apply eye cream throughout the day with a maniacal laugh and my coworkers think I’m a creep, but that’s beside the point.) Instantly my tired eyes felt soothed courtesy of the illuminating, lifting properties of the balm. It’s potent, hydrating, and truly feels like a treat for your face—while also quickly easing signs of fatigue, lines, wrinkles, and dark circles.

But wait, there’s more.

I opened up the lip side to reveal a protective lip balm that feels luxurious to the touch and even better as it plumped and replenished the moisture in my lips. No more chapped winter lips, no more unsightly flakes. What was left behind was a smooth, glossy (but not too glossy) formula and one happy camper (that’s me).

Two of the first areas on the face where wrinkles develop are the eyes and lips. That skin is extremely thin, and therefore susceptible to damage from environmental stressors, but those areas are also prone to volume loss and wrinkle gain as we age. La Prairie’s signature cellular complex allows the formula to swell with water in the skin to fill wrinkles and plump lips. The eye cream quickly diffuses light to disguise imperfections and give a wide-awake, refreshed look; meanwhile the lip balm prevents dryness. Just sweep your finger over the cream-gel and smooth gently around your eye contour under your eye. It can even be applied over foundation for touch-ups! Next, apply the lip balm directly to your lips alone or prior to swiping on your favourite lipstick. I like to dab a bit over my matte lipsticks so they don’t dry out during the day. Move over Kendall and Gigi, this is the new dream team.
