Kylie Jenner’s Hairstylist Shares His Kooky Trick for Perfect Waves
With so many different hairstyles trending at any one time (thank you fashion month), the humble wave can seem a bit basic. Still, nailing the perfect curl—whether that be polished or beachy—is priority for those of us who shy away from straight strands. According to The Huffington Post Australia, celebrity hairstylist Jonathan Colombini (who regularly works with all five of the Kardashian/Jenner sisters) agrees, referring to waves as a "timeless" look. Even hair chameleon Kylie Jenner is on board.
Colombini relies on several pro methods for nailing the perfect result, including using a variety of different hot tools to tweak the finish: "I sometimes like using a straightener to curl but it depends on what look you're doing. I prefer to curl the hair with a hot tong but then I might use a straightener to pull it out a bit."
If that sounds a touch difficult, Jenner's stylist also has some advice for amateurs—and it's pretty surprising: "The easiest way to [get a perfect wave] is to not look in the mirror." Still with us? "When you look into the mirror everything is backwards, so women get confused as to whether to go backwards or forwards, and where to hold their arms," explains Colombini. Been. There.
Colombini goes on to advise facing away from the mirror and letting your instinct guide you. This might sound a little risky but it’s actually a pretty solid suggestion. Creating a curl that's too perfect can leave you looking like an overdone bridesmaid, whereas a little haphazardness adds to the tousled appeal. When you're done sprinkle a little Schwarzkopf Extra Care Instant Volume Powder ($9) over your roots to enhance the effect.
