Lara Worthington’s Colourist Reveals the Secret to Strong, Shiny Blonde Hair
Olaplex may have some naysayers, but most hairstylists we know agree that it’s a clever bit of technology that’s changed the way they’re able to colour process hair. (It’s said to be the reason Kim Kardashian was able to lift her dark strands all the way to platinum minus the fried ends last year—no biggie.)
We know Olaplex is a winner for keeping blonde hair soft in the salon, but did you know you’re able to use it at home too? Our pals at Popsugar Australia quizzed Lara Worthington’s colourist, Jaye Edwards of Edwards and Co, on how to use the brand’s take home treatment Hair Perfector and the results were interesting.
Keep reading for two ways to use Olaplex at home for strong, shiny blonde hair.
Olaplex’s take home treatment is actually meant to be applied before you wash your hair. “It is important to remember that [it] is not a conditioning treatment, it is a pre-treatment.” We suggest using a hydrating mask like Kevin Murphy’s Hydrate.Me.Masque ($50) after you condition for extra gloss.
Unlike other strengthening hair masks which can actually do damage if left on too long, Edwards says Olaplex is so nourishing you can leave it on all night: “Leave it in and sleep away. It makes a world of difference—just remember to shampoo and condition like normal in the morning.”
Hot tip: Edwards says Olaplex’s magical powers shouldn’t just be reserved for blondes. “Using [it] in brunette colours also helps the colour to last longer, and makes the hair much, much shinier.” We’re sold.
