Lip Contouring Is Now a Thing, and It's Not as Silly as It Sounds
Before you roll your eyes at the idea of lip contouring, let us assure you, it's not as silly as it sounds. (And it doesn't involve a dozen products and careful shading either.) The trend was kicked off by Burberry, a brand known for it's unflinchingly unfussy approach to beauty, which is effectively a guarantee of its low-key nature. As you would have guessed, lip contouring is all about adding shadow to the lips in order to create the appearance of naturally fuller pout, but here's the thing—according to Burberry, you only need one product to do it. Introducing: Lip Colour Contour. First debuted at the brand's A/W show way back in February, they're about to go on counter in Australia on May 14. Cue, the ceremonial binning of every plumping lip gloss you own.
According to Vogue.com, makeup artist Wendy Rowe has previously described the product as "different to lipstick" in that it's a primer, colour and sculpting agent in one. Available in four nude shades, it's meant to look like your lips, but better. If you ask us, the magic of these pens is the absence of any obvious trickery. (Overliners, we're looking at you.) Instead of swiping it on as you would a lipstick, line the outer edges, then fill in. Next, soften the edges with a cotton tip or finger to create a fuzzy shadow. You can also apply just to the top and bottom edges of your lips and blend well, for a more contoured look. Without a doubt, these babies are set to replace your lipstick.
