Byrdie Australia: What’s been your favourite thing about working with Madonna?
Gina Brooke: My favourite thing about working with Madonna is that she is a true professional—as a team, we are always striving to work harder, be better and elevate our creativity.
B: Does Madonna collaborate on the looks you do together? What’s that process like?
GB: Madonna is involved in absolutely every aspect of all her projects right down to the buttons on the dancers' costumes. We begin by pulling references, followed by a collaboration with the stylist, hair, makeup and lighting team.
B: In your opinion, what’s the one skincare item every woman needs?
GB: The one skincare every women should own is Intraceuticals Daily Serum ($149). It has a low molecular weight of hyaluronic acid, which hydrates and delivers powerful antioxidant ingredients to the skin. In addition, one pump added to concealer creates the perfect canvas for beautiful makeup... it literally creates the appearance of flawless skin.
B: What’s one makeup item every woman should own and why?
GB: Every women should own a bold lip colour—it makes a statement and exudes femininity and confidence.
B: If you could only use three beauty products for life what would they be?
GB: Kiko Milano's Radiant Touch Creamy Stick Highlighter in Gold to accentuate bone structure and create the illusion of luminous skin; RCMA Shinto Palette ($48) to conceal skin imperfections and contour; Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited Supreme Matte ($42) is the perfect lipstick to create a timeless effortless look.
B: What’s your best tip for creating a flawless complexion?
GB: Make sure your skin is moisturised and exfoliated. Hydrated, smooth skin is essential for makeup up to work in harmony with your skin. I cannot stress how important it is to blend. Foundation, contour, highlight should all seamlessly blend to create that lust-worthy flawless complexion.
B: What makeup looks do you love for the chilly season?
GB: I love looks that accentuate bone structure and emphasise the colour of the eyes. I particularly love using colours like aubergine, golds and bronze to accentuate blue, green and hazel eyes, followed by soft feminine lashes. However, my favourite look is flawless luminous skin, a bold lip and of course, lashes.
B: Do you have any tricks for brightening up a dull complexion?
GB: Intraceuticals' Opulence Essential 3 Step Pack ($149) is my go-to skincare for clients who want to instantly brighten a dull winter complexion. The Opulence Daily Serum, Hydration Gel and Moisture Brightening Cream all deliver powerful brightening ingredients that revive the skin while at the same time hydrating and protecting against visible signs of ageing. The results are immediate and all my clients love it, especially for red carpet events, interviews and photo shoots.
B: Have you ever had any beauty disasters happen before a red carpet?
GB: I once had a client about to walk the red carpet and I noticed a huge red lipstick mark beside her cheek from someone who had kissed her. I took out my travel-sized Shu Uemura oil and managed to remove it immediately.
