Healthy Work-Friendly Breakfasts That Only Take 5 Minutes

Breakfast may be the most important meal of the day, but sometimes we just don't have the time. If it's a choice between getting out of the door fed or looking fabulous, you know which option we'd choose. The thing is, it's really important to have a good breakfast (and some even argue two is better than one). In the interests of making sure we start our day right, The Huffington Post gave us some great go-to breakfasts that are both healthy and delicious, and that can all be made in your office kitchen in under 5 minutes. Time-saving and tasty? Count us in.

Here are our top three healthy and delicious breakfasts that don't require a mountain of ingredients or apparatus, perfect for your office kitchen.

(Fancy) Avocado on Toast

Now we know Nigella Lawson copped flack for including this recipe in her latest cookbook, Simply Nigella, but the thing is, avocado and toast isn't just that: it's a perfect breakfast (and anytime) staple that can be transformed in seconds with the addition of something that takes no time to prepare.

Ever tried a little dukkah on top? Or a smear of tahini in place of butter? The greatness of avocado on toast being a work-friendly meal is that it only takes a squeeze of lime, a sprinkle of crushed pistachios or a dust of black pepper to take this treat into weekend territory—all of which can be stowed away in your work pantry for mornings just like this. Pick wholegrain toast and it's also high in fibre, complex carbs and healthy fats.

Dressed-Up Overnight Oats

The trick with overnight oats is that the prep doesn't leave you scrambling in the morning and the finishing touches are added once you get into your office kitchen. All you do is soak one part oats in two parts water, milk or yoghurt or your choice. And the 'hard work' is done.

Your additions could be anything from fresh berries, a dollop of yoghurt, a sliced banana, a sprinkle of flaked coconut, chia or pumpkin seeds, some honey or dates, cocoa nibs, a shake of cinnamon or cardamom... the possibilities are endless. And, all of these possibilities don't expire in a short amount of time (especially if you're freezing the fruit) and what could be more office friendly than digging out last week's pecans and making them into a morning treat?

What Should I Eat For Breakfast Today

Not only are oats low GI to keep you from crashing quickly but they're microwave friendly, so if you can't do your oats cold, this is the way to go.

But we don't just add some honey to our office oats, oh no. We combine our other office friendly nourishment (tea) with our oats for something really special and you can too. That spicy milky chai you love? It's the perfect replacement for plain milk when you make your oats. Or whatever liquid you generally use, substitute it with an infused cup of herbal tea instead. Trust us, you'll never go back.
