Wellness Junkies: Chromotherapy Is the Newest Way to Boost Your Mood Fast
Chromotherapy is an age-old alternative wellness practice that connects specific colours to different moods and energies, which are otherwise known as chakras (we’ve got a beginner’s guide to the seven chakras, if you’re looking). This “colour therapy” rests on the belief that each chakra is located in a specific part of the body, and thus affects the organs and biological systems found there. By exposing yourself to different colours, you can balance yourself out, whether that’s physically, emotionally, or mentally. (Or maybe a combination of all three.)
According to Brit + Co, a new company called Rainbow Optx is spreading chromotherapy awareness and accessibility in a simple, chic way—by producing a variety of coloured-lens sunnies that we already know and love. Apparently, boosting your mood is as easy as tossing on a pair of rose (or yellow, or indigo…) coloured glasses. Apparently, the effects on our mood abound. As Brit + Co reports, certain colours are known for “offering feel-good results ranging from calming effects to increased openness to a cheerier mood.” It all depends on the colour you're exposed to. Rainbow Optx offers ten different colour options, which are all available in five different styles (wayfarer, round, heart, aviator, and cat-eye, respectively). And each style costs just $39.
The website shares the chakra and mantra that each shade is associated with. Take blue, for instance; it’s associated with the throat chakra. The website says, “Blue is cooling to our system and it is relaxing. It is quieting to our energies. It can be used to awaken intuition and to ease loneliness.” Further than that, “It can also be used to awaken artistic expression and inspiration.”
