This Celebrity Makeup Artist's 2-Second Beauty Trick Will Change Your Face
To say we adore celebrity makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury would be an understatement. In the past, we've marveled at her inspirational journey to career success in the beauty space, and professed our undying love for many of her products (including the skin-changing elixir that is Magic Foundation). We've also dissected her non-traditional night-time skincare routine. It's safe to say Tilbury, the patron saint of real-girl makeup (the stuff that can make regular Janes—not just genetically blessed celebrities—look phenomenal), is the focus of a Byrdie girl crush. Same? Your admiration is about to hit new heights.
In a new interview with PORTER, Tilbury gets personal, revealing how her fabulous "haute bohemia" childhood in Ibiza influenced her take on the world at large, and on beauty. (If you're unfamiliar with her upbringing, do yourself a favour and read it—it's a fashion fantasy.) The article is an eye-opening look inside Tilbury's electric world and reveals the inspiration behind both her brand and her signature makeup magic.
We were touched to learn that Tilbury's understanding of the face-transforming powers of a magnetic scarlet lip came by way of her mother, Patsy, who advised her young daughters that the beauty MVP was akin to "instant glamour". (Tilbury also spent her formative years studying posters of Marilyn Monroe—we're guessing that helped, too.)
Patsy is also credited with introducing Tilbury to Mary Greenwell (Princess Diana's makeup artist) at the tender age of 11. The experience ignited her interest in professional face painting, so we should probably give thanks for her role in helping Matte Revolution Luminous Modern-Matte Lipstick ($48) find its way into our beauty bags.
