This Genius Skin Scanner Evaluates Your Complexion in a Single Click
So you’re a beauty lover. You must know all about the newest launches, right? You’re up to date on the best Sephora products, the buzziest celeb endorsements, and the hottest makeup trends for 2017—so you must also know all about the annual Consumer Electronics Show. No? That’s ok; it’s why we’re here.
CES assembles the newest (and greatest) advancements in technology across all industries—including beauty. The devices unveiled at this year’s show are truly epic. They have the power to change our makeup and skincare routines for good. Seriously. Imagine a patch that deposits special skincare ingredients while reporting back with hydration and redness measurements. Or what about a mirror that scans your face to analyse skin issues? All of a sudden (and to our total amazement), these devices have become a reality. Read on to see four of the most talked-about futuristic beauty devices from this year’s CES!
HiMirror Skin Analysis Engine ($256)
The HiMirror is a touch-free analysis device that examines your skin by simply taking a photo. It detects surface-level skin issues and, get this, addresses them with skincare routine and product suggestions. It also tracks your skin conditions over time, helping you to glean knowledge on what products and routine tweaks work best for you.
The newest model, the HiMirror Plus, comes with incorporated LED lighting that mimics various settings, like the harsh light of an office, the dim light of a restaurant, or the bright sun. This means you can check your makeup in all settings before you leave the house. In other words, gone are the days of walking outside, catching your reflection in a shop window, and being betrayed by the makeup application you once thought was #flawless.
The HiSkin takes it one step further. When you place the handheld device onto your skin, it analyses below your skin's surface level. This means things like cuticle moisture, acne scars, skin pigmentation, and environmental factors can be accurately calculated. When using it alongside the HiMirror, consumers can learn about and treat their own skin issues. Is this the dermatology of the future? If the answer is yes for you, it's available for preorder on the brand's website.
Samsung's newest beauty technology comes in the form of the S Skin. It tracks and measures skin condition just like the HiMirror and HiSkin do, but it actively treats issues with microneedle patches. These microneedles inject special skincare ingredients that target wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and blemishes. You can see and track the measurements through the accompanying smartphone app. Then, you're onto the final step, which is to shine the device's LED light on your face. Doing so banishes dark spots while purifying your skin as a whole.
Here is the world's first smart hairbrush… That's a sentence we never expected to utter in 2017. Unveiled by Kératase and Withings (a branch of Nokia) earlier this month, the device trains you to brush your hair in a healthy, gentle manner. Aptly named the Hair Coach, it vibrates when it senses breakage from brushing too hard.
It can also detect and measure damage from heat, dye, and other environmental factors. The brush communicates its data back to a smartphone app, where it's arranged for easy consumption. And don't worry—keeping it in your bathroom is safe, as it's completely water resistant and battery powered. Keep an eye out for it at select Kératase salons—it's scheduled to debut for purchase later on this year.
