How Beyoncé, Gigi, and More Hack Their Favourite Drugstore Product
We love a good beauty hack, mostly because it means we're repurposing a product we already own to improve the state of our hair, skin, makeup look, etc. Some of our favourite hacks? Dipping just-painted nails in cold water to make them dry faster and dabbing concealer under our noses to brighten our entire complexion in a flash, to name a few. So while we've picked up many of these tricks from makeup artists, Pinterest—even fellow beauty editors—we're especially tickled when we learn a new tip from Hollywood's finest.
From Beyoncé's genius lash-curling trick to Jessica Alba's unexpected pimple-hiding hack, we've compiled our favourite time-saving and, not to mention, money-saving tips—each hack-producing product can be found at your local drugstore. Keep scrolling to learn more!
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen
Known for their feather-y, natural brows, the Olsen twins piqued our interest when they shared an exclusive brow-grooming tip with us: They use a toothbrush and brow gel to shape their arches. "You need a flat toothbrush," Ashley says. "It's bigger than a brow brush, so it works better."
Jessica Alba's makeup artist employs the most simple and effective pimple-concealing trick: eye shadow primer. Martin tells us that he uses Nyx's Proof It Eyeshadow Primer ($11) essentially as spackle on top of a nasty breakout. It creates a smooth surface to apply makeup on top of, and sticks to the skin "like glue."
Free hack alert: Gigi Hadid uses those tiny mascara wands you can get for free at a makeup testing stations at Mecca (or any other beauty counter) to slough away dead skin on her lips. She also uses a sugar scrub in conjunction with the wand for a super-smooth pout.
For soft, beachy waves like Jenna Dewan Tatum's, you don't need to tire your arms out hile using a curling iron or rely on good genes; instead, use bobby pins (seriously). Stylist Bridget Brager used an old-school pin-curl method to style the actress's hair for the red carpet, using only bobby pins, hairspray, and a blowdryer.
