A 3-Step Tutorial for Spring's Coolest Look: The Blurred Lip
Call us unable to live in the moment, but we’re already really, really ready for spring. Luckily, celebrity makeup artist Lauren Andersen was willing to indulgence us and help us get a head start on the season with a wearable take on blurred lipstick. We’re ditching the dark red colour that dominated the runways, and trading it in for something fresher. The result is effortlessly cool and totally real-life appropriate. Mute the natural colour of your lips with your favourite nude lipstick. For this step, Andersen recommends applying a product with a little shimmer. We’re using Hourglass’s Femme Rouge Velvet Crème Lipstick ($30) in Whisper.
Next, apply a bright-coloured lipstick in the center of your bottom lip. Be sure to get the very inside edge, and avoid bringing the colour all the way to your lip line. Press your lips together to transfer the colour to your top lip. Then pat more lipstick into the center to add depth. Andersen suggests working with a lip brush for precision. To play up the contrast, choose a lipstick with a matte or satin finish, like the Ultra Colour Lipstick in Poppy Love ($6) from Avon that we’re using.
Top the brighter lipstick in the center (in this case, the Avon one) with lip gloss. This intensifies the bright colour, while softly blending the two lipstick shades. We’re using Laura Mercier’s Lip Glacé ($25) in Bonbon.
And that’s all it takes to master blurred lips!
